Mahindra

A Bit of Mahindra History

Dave's Tractor started carrying the Mahindra tractor brand in late 2003. The Mahindra Group was founded in 1945 as Mahindra & Mohammed, a steel trading company in Mumbai, India by J.C. Mahindra, K.C. Mahindra and Ghulam Mohammed. In 1947, Ghulam Mohammed emigrated to Pakistan making the company change their name to Mahindra & Mahindra. That same year, the group was selected to build the Willy's Jeep for WWII! It was then that the brothers believed India needed new modes of transportation, focusing on rugged vehicles.

In the 50's and 60's, Mahindra branched out into businesses like IT, hospitality, financial services, aerospace, and logistics. In 1963 Mahindra joined with International Harvester to manufacture tractors in India. This joint venture prepared them to form its' own tractor division in 1977, where Mahindra was responsible for design, manufacturing and marketing. With India being the world's largest agricultural market, Mahindra had big shoes to fill, but they did it! In 1983, Mahindra became the best-selling tractor in India.

Mahindra came to the USA in 1994 and set headquarters in Houston Texas. Currently there are four other distribution plants in the U.S. to help get Mahindra tractors to over 500 dealers in United States and Canada. These dealers are what put Mahindra at the #1 seat of World's bestselling tractor since 2010! Dave's Tractor has been impressed by Mahindra's compact tractors and that they feature a Mitsubishi engine from Japan! Come by and see why Mahindra is the #1 selling tractor in the world!
